Richard Kitoshi
I attended my first yoga teacher training in 2012 in Nairobi, Kenya. Under the tutelage of Sharon Moon of the Jois Foundation, I was trained in the style of Ashtanga yoga. In 2013, I attended the Africa Yoga Project (AYP) 200hr Teacher Training. Through this training, I was taught by Kiersten Mooney, Lisa Taylor, and AYP’s founder Paige Elenson. Within the same year, I attended the Level 2 Teacher Training, taught by Baron Baptiste in Malindi, Kenya.
I have also completed the Next Generation Yoga training, which emphasizes on children from 2-13 years old. This training was lead by Jodi Komitor, the author of the best-selling book, The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Yoga with Kids. In 2014, I attended a four module-based Level 1 Kundalini Teacher Training, from which I successfully graduated in February of 2015.
At the start of my career within teaching yoga, I began by teaching at a rehabilitation centre for girls in Kirigiti, Kiambu, and Kenya. I also taught mothers living within the slum area of Huruma in Nairobi.
Nowadays, I can be found teaching at the Shine Center on weekday evenings or occasionally on Sunday afternoons. I have also extended my love for yoga by teaching privately in upcoming yoga studios, gyms, and residential areas. I look forward to one-day run my own yoga studio in the hopefully near future.
