MARY NYAKINYUA
Certified 200hr AYP Instructor, Yoga Outreach Teacher and Former Counselor
My name is Nyakinyua Mary and I am a yoga instructor and counselor. I discovered the practice of yoga in 2011, a time in which I was experiencing severe emotional challenges. It is through my yoga practice I began to experience a healing and transformation. Out of this, a passion and desire was born to deepen and share the benefits of yoga with others who may or may not have gone through a similar experience.
I am driven by my desire to see my students tap into their full potential to rise beyond what they might have thought was possible for themselves through the practice of yoga. Attending the 200hr teacher training with the Africa Yoga Project (AYP) was the catalyst to this pursuit for myself. As a result, I choose to hold outreach yoga classes in a rehabilitation center for people in treatment for Substance Use Disorder (SUD) and in Juvenile Rehabilitation schools, for children in need of care and protection.
I want to exude so much joy through my practice after experiencing firsthand some of the things my students have so that they want to begin their own journey of transformation. Along with being able to reach out to my students, the practice of yoga has inspired confidence within myself and my abilities. I have overcome inner struggles which has boosted my own feelings of self worth. I want my students to use yoga as a tool and vehicle to lead a holistic life. I am dedicated to leading a life of selfless service and am overjoyed to see my students start taking ownership of their life to gain a positive outlook of life through the principles and practice of yoga.
