NEWTON KAMAU
Certified AYP Yoga Instructor, AYFit Teacher, TIMBO Yoga Instructor
I’m an Africa Yoga Project instructor certified by AYP, AYfit (AcroYoga fit), Trauma Informed Mind Body (TIMBO) Yoga and completed 3 week Intro to Anatomy course offered by AYP.
I was brought up in a crime prone area, which hits the headlines frequently for all the wrong reasons. Recently the residents were demonstrating when a rogue cop was arrested for shooting a thug in a broad day light, so it is rated as the second worst place to live in Nairobi. I love teaching the transformational practice of yoga as a tool to enlighten the youths in my area that they may be transformed and have a shift in mindset.
I teach five community outreach yoga classes that are free to everyone in my neighborhood, and my students have shared with me how much the area has changed security-wise and even morally since we began our classes. I also teach yoga in business settings and schools where students and staff spend much of their time at desks or on computers. Two of my favorites are Tunapanda Institute in Kibera Moringa School on Ngong road where the students are IT enthusiasts and also come from a similar background to mine.
In addition to my passion for yoga, I am pursuing a diploma from Zetec University in Information Technology.
