Lillian Adhiambo
My name is Lilian Adhiambo and I currently work as a yoga instructor for the Africa Yoga Project. I have both my 200hr teacher training certificate from AYP as well as the Baron Baptiste Institute’s Level Two certification. I teach four classes a week for a wide range of students. In particular, I am specialized in working with students with special needs, kids, those with autism, and the Deaf. My hero is Sharon Moon, who specializes in Ashtanga yoga. Justice and freedom are what makes me smile most; I am inspired by unity.
My goal is to give Deaf students the best class possible, through an equality of teaching with hearing students as well. I hope to start a program which provides yoga for deaf and autistic children in schools. Furthermore, I hope to write and teach a curriculum for physically impaired people to partake in chair yoga.
Within my teaching, I am mainly influenced to teach and practice through ways of peace, love, and joy. I find that yoga has made me a better person because I am now social and consistently stand for the special needs and Deaf community. The most interesting experience I have had practicing and teaching yoga are when people see me, I want them to see the possibility of yoga to provide the feeling of freshness, freedom, and to keep them (and myself) on their toes through a stance of togetherness and unity. Most importantly, I believe sharing yoga with my community will create peace, love happiness, and a power of connectedness.
